Developer-led previews detail GTA VI’s connected systems
Direct reporting from Rockstar North adds detail on relationships, exercise, vehicle theft, police response and exploration.
Famitsu and EL PAÍS each attended developer-controlled demonstrations at Rockstar North. In both reports, a Rockstar developer held the controller; these were firsthand, hands-off previews rather than journalist play sessions.
Rob Nelson told Famitsu that players can shape Jason and Lucia’s relationship as a romantic couple or as criminal partners. The depth of that relationship changes available interactions, and its status can be checked in game.
The same interview describes a witness-led wanted response and a Criminal Profile that tracks how the player behaves. Police can work from descriptions of clothing, weapons and vehicles, while changing those identifiers can reduce recognition.
Vehicle theft is presented as a progression rather than a single universal action. Older cars may yield to simple tools, while newer or high-value vehicles can require electronic key cloning and may carry alarms or trackers. Pay & Spray can appraise, repair, repaint and register vehicles, with a branch-specific delay after a sale.
The previews also point to a broader connection between open-world activity and progression. Famitsu reports that open-world earnings contribute to story progress, while EL PAÍS observed underwater coral diving among the activities shown during its session.
